Armanshahr/OPEN ASIA Call for submission of works to the

5th Simorgh International Peace Prize

21st September 2017

The 5th Simorgh International Peace Prize follows the motto “My ideal city” and is concerned with poems, stories and drawings by children and adolescents of Afghanistan. How do children who have lived all their lives with the demon of war, portray and picture their ideal city? They have not seen any other form of life. The demon of war has always cast its shadow on their homes, neighbourhoods, towns and country. How then do they envision life in peace?

To enable us to universalise their vision of utopia and to relay it to peace lovers and belligerents, Secretariat of the 5th Simorgh International Peace Prize appeals to the architects of the future of Afghanistan to share with us their vision of the city they shall be building.

To fulfil this idea, we approach the schools in order to reach out to children and adolescents who are increasingly coming in contact with pen and books.

Background

Armanshahr /OPEN ASIA is the founder of the Simorgh International Peace Prize, launched in October 2009, which is awarded to significant cultural and civil initiatives. The prize is specific to the extended geography of Persian-language speakers.

In its first edition, Armanshahr lauded poets and writers who endeavour for peace. READ in English a selection of poems here.

The second round  concerned independent publishers who engage in their arduous task to convey awareness.

The third edition was allocated to artists and musicians in Afghanistan, Iran and Tajikistan, who use their art with the objective of drowning the sounds of guns and despotism.

Prizes for the 4th round, were given to women who are true protectors of peace in three countries located at the heart of Asia – Afghanistan, Iran and Tajikistan – women who despise war-mongering and stand up to it by their civic and sustained initiatives; innovative women who resist the despotic and war-afflicted world and give us hope to continue the struggle to change the unjust relations and serve equality.
