The festival has chosen a total of 38 films from among three hundred submissions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">This year\u2019s selected industry activities for films professionals were grouped under a new \u201c<b>EASTERN PROMISES<\/b>\u201d brand.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">A total of three juries of the KVIFF Eastern Promises platform had to hand out awards to the most hopeful projects at an overall value of 155,000 Euro (4 million CZK).<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">&#8220;Leakage&#8221; by Suzan<\/span> <span class=\"s1\">Iravanian and the &#8220;Forbidden Strings&#8221; by Hassan Noori, an Afghan, born and raised in Iran, participated in two sections, \u201cWork in progress&#8221; and &#8220;Docs in progress&#8221; this year.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">&#8220;Leakage&#8221;, which will be shortly ready, is an amazing movie with a very high symbolic story of the exploration of ambiguity that is caused by the reality of day to day life in Iran.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">In this film, we follow a fifty-year-old woman who is facing a lot of family afflictions. The main character believes that she must immigrate to Germany in order to find her missing husband.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>She has a terrible secret: her body secretes oil\u2026 One day her daughter and sister discover this. Consequently this vital substance becomes the main issue of everyone&#8217;s attention until the day the woman&#8217;s body stops functioning altogether and creates chaos&#8230;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>Interview with Kaveh Farnam, the Iranian Producer<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<audio class=\"wp-audio-shortcode\" id=\"audio-9573-1\" preload=\"none\" style=\"width: 100%;\" controls=\"controls\"><source type=\"audio\/mpeg\" src=\"https:\/\/openasia.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/K.-Farnam-ITW-english.mp3?_=1\" \/><a href=\"https:\/\/openasia.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/K.-Farnam-ITW-english.mp3\">https:\/\/openasia.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/K.-Farnam-ITW-english.mp3<\/a><\/audio>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/openasia.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/Kaveh-Farnam-KVIFF2018.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-9574\" src=\"https:\/\/openasia.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/Kaveh-Farnam-KVIFF2018.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"960\" srcset=\"https:\/\/openasia.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/Kaveh-Farnam-KVIFF2018.jpg 1280w, https:\/\/openasia.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/Kaveh-Farnam-KVIFF2018-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/openasia.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/Kaveh-Farnam-KVIFF2018-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/openasia.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/Kaveh-Farnam-KVIFF2018-1024x768.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1280px) 100vw, 1280px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">I asked Kaveh Farnam, who has produced a number of Iranian films, including the latest movie by Mohammad Rassoulof, &#8220;Lerd&#8221; (award winner of <b>Un Certain Regard<\/b> section of last year&#8217;s Cannes Film Festival), and questions about the interest of a film like \u201cLeakage\u201d for a producer. <span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Notably regarding the metaphor of the film, which is understandable for Iranians, but may not be clear for an international public. He told me: \u201cyou have to explain to the public that \u201cIran\u201d is also a girl\u2019s name, and then they will understand\u201d. I ended my talk with him around the issues of how this kind of film may respond to sales and distribution requirements and why he was seduced by this film.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/openasia.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/vlcsnap-error536.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-9577\" src=\"https:\/\/openasia.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/vlcsnap-error536.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1920\" height=\"1080\" srcset=\"https:\/\/openasia.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/vlcsnap-error536.jpg 1920w, https:\/\/openasia.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/vlcsnap-error536-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/openasia.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/vlcsnap-error536-768x432.jpg 768w, https:\/\/openasia.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/vlcsnap-error536-1024x576.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1920px) 100vw, 1920px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">Another project, &#8220;The Forbidden strings&#8221;, presented by<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Hassan Noori, follows the story of four young Afghans from<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>refugee families in Iran, who, like the director himself, have been born and have been living in Iran all their lives. We witness their hard labour in order to support their families during the day time. But as the night falls, they get together in a remote place outside of Tehran, away from the eyes of their families and the police, in order to practice what they dream to be: rock stars.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>They aspire to perform their first concert in their motherland, Afghanistan, which they have never seen before.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Can this dream come true with the presence of the Taliban forces everywhere?<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">The producer of the film, Afsaneh Salari, is a young award-winning filmmaker.
