In December 2003, 27 female political party leaders came together to brainstorm how best to promote women’s participation within political parties. The resulting action plan, Win with Women, identifies political party structures that have encouraged more active leadership roles for women, candidate recruitment and training programs, successful outreach efforts, fundraising and communication opportunities, and avenues for influencing government policies. Index of Recommendations: 1. Remove restrictions on women’s political participation, including restrictions on women’s suffrage and candidacy. 2. Increase the number of women elected officials at the national, provincial and local levels. 3. Ensure that political parties include women in meaningful leadership positions and in meaningful numbers. 4. Encourage greater participation of women in government decision-making and advocating for legislation that enshrines the full equality of women and men.
