The Wolusi Jirga of Afghanistan is about to vote on the mineral law of the country inside parliament, while Afghan civil society specially the Natural Resources Monitoring Network (NRMN) has been advocating for amendments in the draft to make it a better law.
Civil Society has been in discussion with many members of the Wolusi Jirga to introduce the amendments in the draft mineral law, while, the House representatives are voting on the bill to make it law.

The law being discussed right now inside the Wolusi Jirga is weak with many serious deficiencies for and it will not be the right tool for achieving sustainable transparent and inclusive development of the natural resources.

We are in a critical situation as people and as a country to boost our economy and passing such a weak law will strengthen the grip of the powerful corrupt companies and individuals. However, the natural resources of Afghanistan belong to the nation and the state is to manage and develop it sustainably in a transparent manner, for the inclusive benefits of all Afghans.

We have peacefully gathered here today to tell our representative inside the Wolusi Jirga that we the people elected them to the House and they must not pass the bill without required amendments.

If you pass the bill you will betray us!
