Festival holders can expect that over the three day event, of the 46 movies on women from around the world that will be screened, three will be chosen as the best and receive awards.

Artists as well as normal participants of the festival all celebrated the cultural exchange, and many complained that not enough has been done to promote arts and culture in Afghanistan since the fall of the Taliban.

Participants of the festival were from a variety of countries in the region and around the world. “A number of film makers from the United States, European countries, Iran and Tajikistan have submitted their movies to this festival,” said Roya Sadat, the head of the Roya Film Foundation.

A number of movie stars also participated in the festival and welcomed further events. “This festival has a great importance for encouraging me to increase my cinematic works,” Afghan artist Leena Alam said.

Experts applauded the event and said that future festivals would help institutionalize Afghan cinema. “I believe that holding such festivals will institutionalize the cinema art, especially among females,” said author Muhammad Azam Rahnaward Zaryab.
