The past ten years in Afghanistan have proven to be a decade of remarkable progress in the lives of Afghan Women. Emerging from an era characterised by the absence of women in public life, called “gender apartheid” by some, we have witnessed significant changes over the last decade. today, 28% of Afghan parliament seats are filled by women; women have important roles in the development of their communities (at least in the cities); millions of girls are back in schools, and women are running their own businesses – both collectively and independently.
