About the film :
He is not afraid to bleed for art. Literally. In 2012, out of solidarity with the band Pussy Riot he stitched his mouth with thread. A year later, he sat naked on Red Square with his scrotum nailed to the pavement as a message about the apathy of Russian society. Then, in protest against the abuse of psychiatry for political persecution, he cut off his ear lobe. In 2015, after setting fire to the door of the headquarters of the FSB in the infamous Lubyanka, he was arrested and put on trial. Conceptual artist and activist Petr Pavlensky is more than just a provocateur; his actions are thoughtful and based on an artistic vision. His main theme is individual freedom in the face of state power. In addition to his famous performances and opinions, the film features originally narrated scenes of his police interrogations and trials.
The post-screening debate will feature Olga Abramenko, director of ADC Memorial, along with human rights defenders from Russia and guests.
