11th anniversary of AIHRC celebrated

The Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission, Armanshahr Foundation and the Herat Young People’s Literary Society organised a poetry reading night at the regional offices of the AIHRC in Herat on 4 June 2013 to celebrate the 11th anniversary of the commission’s establishment. Poets, writers, cultural activists and members of the AIHRC from different provinces were present at the meeting.

Civil society groups to Afghan government and donors: Live up to your promises on mining sector!

An alliance of 36 Afghan and international civil society organisations have urged the Afghan government and its donors to deliver on their commitment to effective oversight in the country’s extractives sector. Despite constant dangers, Afghan women’s poetry continues to flourish. One outlet for women’s poetry is Mirman Baheer, Afghanistan’s largest literary society for women. Mirman Baheer operates in Kabul with over 100 members.
