Since 2011, USIP has advocated that Afghanistan’s political transition, and the presidential election in particular, will be the most crucial factor in determining the country’s stability post-2014.

Malika Suraya Afghanyar is a filmmaker. She is studying film directing and writing at the Fine Arts Department of Kabul University.

The findings argue for the critical role of civil society in security and justice sector development and point to some of the measures necessary to support such groups effectively. Horia Mosadiq is the Amnesty International researcher on Afghanistan. She was a child growing up in Herat province when the Soviets invaded Afghanistan in 1979. Soon after the fall of Dr Najibullah’s government, she was forced to leave Afghanistan.

Abdul Hafiz Mansoor has been a Member of Parliament for several years. He fought against the Soviets when he was 16 & later, against the Taliban. He obtained a MA in political science, writing his dissertation on the obstacles to development in Afghanistan.

Nowruznameh – epistle of Nowruz – the writing of which is attributed to Omar Khayyam, the celebrated Persian-speaking poet, mathematician, astronomer, and philosopher, has been published in Afghanistan based on the text corrected by Mojtaba Minovi.
