Violence and threats against Afghanistan’s journalists by the government and security forces are increasing, Human Rights Watch said in a report released today. These attacks put at risk the gains inmedia freedom in Afghanistan since 2001.

On the eve of Eid-e-Miladunnabi, the Birthday of the Prophet Mohammad, President Ashraf Ghani has issued a decree ordering the release of 101 prisoners from Pol-e-Charkhi and women’s jails in Kabul.

Despite modern state building and good governance efforts began in 2001 in Afghanistan, traditional ways of conflict resolution, particularly those related to social issues are widely being practiced in the country. Some of these practices have positive impacts and are effective in finding solution to social disputes.

The Campaign of “Unveiling Afghanistan, the Voices of Progress” was started in mid 2013 with the goal of recording views and opinions of political, social and cultural dignitaries of Afghanistan on the eve of 2014 election campaigns.

Finally, Afghanistan has a cabinet, pending parliament’s approval of course, three and a half months after Ashraf Ghani and Abdullah Abdullah were inaugurated as president and chief executive officer (CEO) of a national unity government.
