In an irony of sorts, as its 28th session concludes today, the United Nations Human Rights Council (HRC) has demonstrated its relevance as the main international human rights body only with regard to issues and countries – mass surveillance, the relationship between freedoms of expression and religion and, to some extent, Syria – in the face of which the international community has seemingly been in a stalemate.

We, the undersigned organizations, condemn in the strongest possible terms your decision to deny clemency to 10 individuals who are scheduled to be executed by firing squad in the coming days in Nusakambangan prison in Central Java.

February 11th, the anniversary of Ayatollah Khomeini coming to power in Iran, marks for many people the end of the repression of those who spoke out against the regime of the Shah. Today, what is life like for those who disagree with the current Islamic regime?

In a letter addressed to the International Criminal Court (ICC) Registrar, FIDH expresses its concerns regarding the consequences that the Registrar’s reform project (ReVision project) could have on the victims’ participation and legal representation in ICC proceedings.

Organized by Armanshahr Open Asia, FIDH’s member organization in Afghanistan, and Roya Film House, the festival will present 42 films in official competition that were either created by women or that speak about women’s rights. 16 other films will also be screened outside of the competition.

This paper is based on five case studies, in Cambodia, Brazil, Libya, the Democratic Republic of Congo and the Occupied Palestinian Territory. The assessment of the effect of corporate activities on the human rights of individuals and communities in these five locations identified shortcomings in the United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights (UNGPs), significant difficulties arising with their implementation, and protection gaps which need to be closed.
