No one knows who killed Islam Bibi. The 37-year old police lieutenant, the most senior female officer in southern Afghanistan’s dangerous Helmand province, was riding a motorcycle to work in early July with her son-in-law, when she was shot and killed.

The 92nd Goftegu public debate (6th year), a bridge between the elite and the citizens, of Armanshahr Foundation, entitled “Justice & rights in Balkh” was organised in Mazar-i-Sharif, on 6 September 2012. The discussions centred on the performance of human rights activists in the past 10 years to achieve justice in the country and ‘what should be done’ in the future. Human rights and civil society activists, women’s rights activists, journalists, and university professors attended the meeting.

The 90th Goftegu public debate (6th year), a bridge between the elite and the citizens, of Armanshahr Foundation, entitled “Justice & rights: 10-year experience; a way for the future” was organised in Fayzabad, provincial capital of Badakhshan, at the hall of Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission on 29 August 2012. Human rights and civil society activists, women’s rights activists and many young people attended the meeting to hear discussions based on human rights, victims and justice.

Monday 12 August 201379th Goftegu Public Debate: Seeking truth and justice, a study of half a century of crisis in Afghanistan
The 79th (Year V) Goftegu public debate, a bridge between the elites and the citizens, of Armanshahr Foundation was held in cooperation with the French Institute Afghanistan and Physicians for Human Rights at the Institute’s amphitheatre on 21 July 2011 under the title of “In search of truth and justice, a study of half a century of crisis in Afghanistan” and to introduce to newly published books: ‘A Review of War Ruins’, and ‘A selection of Simorgh Stories’. The speakers were: Messers Stefan Schmidt (from Physicians for Human Rights), Alireza Rohani (Senior adviser at the AIHRC and Director of Law faculty Ibn Sina University), Rafigh Shaheer (Member of Parliament), Aziz Rafiee (Managing Director of Afghanistan Civil Society Forum.( About 60 human rights activists, students, academics and media representatives were present at the meeting.

Saturday 10 August 201343rd Goftegu Public Debate: Stakeholders working seminar on the ICC, Transitional justice and strategies to pursue in Afghanistan – Herat
The city of Herat hosted the 43rd public GOFTEGU debate of Armanshahr Foundation on 9 November 2009 to also mark the publication of the new book, A Guideline for Victims to the International Criminal Court. The meeting, as a part of the series of public debates as a “Bridge between the Elite and the Citizens”, was the fifth of its kind to be held in this city, where 60 participants from civil institutions, human rights and citizenry activists, students and intellectuals took part.

The 42nd round of Goftegu Public Debates held in Kabul on 5th November 2009, marked the release of a new Armanshahr publication, “A Guideline for Victims to the International Criminal Court”.
Ms. Shourangiz Dadashi, Ajmal Baluchzada and Sayed Jawad Darwazyan introduced the book to the audience.
